The power of Film, Video and TV in the classrooM

The film, the video and the TV are indeed very powerful. Dale (1969) says, they can:
1.    Transmit a wide range of video- visual materials including still pictures, film, objects, specimen and drama.
2.    Bring model of excellence to the viewer.
3.    Bring the world of reality to the home and to the classroom through a live broadcast or as mediated through film or video tape.
4.    Make us see and hear for ourselves world events as they happen.
5.    Be the most believable source of news.
6.    Make some programs understandable and appealing to a wide variety of age and educational levels.
7.    Become a great equalizer of educational opportunity.
8.    Provide us with sounds and sights.
9.    Can give opportunity to teachers to view themselves while they teach for purposes of self-improvement.
10. Can both instructive and enjoyable.
Their limitations:
1.    TV and film is a one-way communication device consequently they encourage passivity.
2.     There is much violence in TV.
Basic procedure as a Supplementary
1.    Prepare the classroom.
2.    Pre-viewing activities.
3.    Viewing
4.    Post-viewing
5.    Go to the question you raised at the pre-viewing stage.
6.    Tackle questioned.
7.    Ask what the students learned.
8.    Summarize what was learned.


Reflection:
 I learned that film, Video and TV in the classroom are instructional materials enhances the effectiveness of a teaching strategy, thus as a future educator we should be knowledgeable enough in order for us to be an effective teacher.
